P o l e s Apart, CWA, Jersey Island
During her residency at ArtHouse Jersey, Natalia collaborated with local photographer, Aneta Jeziorska-Entwistle. They teamed up to create a pop-up exhibition in Jerseys CWA exhibition space.
Poles a p a r t takes a close look at ugly buildings and beautiful people in Górny Śląsk (Upper Silesia) in southern Poland. The photography of Aneta Jeziorska-Entwistle portrays her family home, in a region known for its unique dialect, traditions, and particular history. In her work she traces the history of a place that once profited from the lucrative mining industry, the closure of which devastated the vicinity and left poverty in its wake. Natalia Kalicki turns segments of these analog portraits into charcoal drawings. The two artists convert the space into an immersive installation, including family heirlooms, fabrics, drawn silhouettes of abandoned factory buildings, and a table of regional edibles.
